Anand - Gelfand 2012 to take place in Russia, Not in Chennai 8.8.2011
Anand - Gelfand World Chess Championship awarded to Russia. The World Chess Championship 2012 between the defending World Champion Viswanathan Anand and the challenger from the Candidates Matches Boris Gelfand will take place in May 2012 in Moscow, Russia.

Changes to Rating Regulations 21.7.2011
The following proposals were agreed at the General Assembly in Khanty Mansiysk. Changes effective from July 1, 2011. K factor for players with fewer than 30 rated games is 30 (was 25) Articles 8.26, 8.34 and 8.56. If a player has achieved a partial rating, each subsequent game against rated player is accumulated to the player’s rating (earlier three games in a tournament were needed) Article 8.21.
Arun Prasad Wins Paris Open 12.7.2011
S. Arun Prasad of Bharat Petroleum, Chennai won the Paris Open that ran from July 2-10 in the French capital. At the end of the penultimate round, three of the four leaders were from India. S. Arun Prasad, S.P. Sethuraman and P. Magesh Chandran were on six points from eight rounds. In the final round, Arun Prasad beat Sethuraman on the top board with the white pieces to win the tournament on seven points from nine games. Arun Prasad (Elo 2489) played at 2688, the other two Grand Masters from India also played better than their rating expectancy.
Three Indian Girls In Joint Lead 5.6.2011
Top seed Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa who recently completed her final Woman Grand Master norm, Pon N. Krithikha and R. Bharathi of Chennai are leading the Asian Junior Girls Chess Championship after two rounds at Colombo in Sri Lanka. The Girls event is a 13-player contest. In the first round, all five Indians won. This 9-round event runs from June 2-8. Indians boys also had a similar start. They drew two mutual round two encounters. Top seed Shyam Sundar, S. Nitin, Shyam Nikhil, Anwesh Upadhyaya, N. Srinath (all Ind) and W.C.C. Perera are leading with 1.5/2. C.R.G. Krishna is on one points.


India Lose Closely to Ukraine 20.7.2011
India went down to former Olympiad champion Ukraine by 1.5-2.5 with the lone defeat coming in the fourth board. India slipped to the ninth place in the World Team Championship which is in progress at Ningbo, China. There is big expectation from the Indians who won a bronze medal on maiden appearance in the previous edition at Turkey. In the next round, India face Israel and might be able to do better. The results: Armenia drew Russia 2-2, Egypt lost to USA 0.5-3.5, China lost to Israel 1.5-2.5, India lost to Ukraine 1.5-2.5, Hungary beat Azerbajian 2.5-1.5.

Shyam Sundar, Bhakti Kulkarni Win Asian Junior 9.6.2011
Shyam Sundar of Chennai and Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa won the Asian Junior Chess Championship that concluded at Colombo on June 8. Significantly, India completed podium sweeps in both the sections. Shyam Sundar retained his title he won last year at Chennai while Bhakti who had previously won the Asian Under-18 title has now upgraded herself to Asian Junior girls champion. Top seed Shyam Sundar would be expected to become a Grand Master very soon while Bhakti had recently completed her final Woman Grand Master norm in Europe. N. Srinath (6.5) of Chennai took the second place. C.R.G. Krishna finished third, Anwesh Upadhyaya fourth and Omarnoaman finished fifth.
